Getting prepared for a track race is a serious task. One needs to have the proper goals, purpose, and discipline. Preparation for a big event such as a track race competition requires the coordination of both a healthy body and a healthy mind. You would not be able to perform your best even if you have a conditioned body but poor mental state and vice versa.
The first step you have to take is to develop your determination. Determination is important so your efforts would not be wasted by giving up halfway the battle. Know your purpose of wanting to win a track trophy. During your training (and the race), remember this purpose over and over again to keep you motivated.
Do your stretching. Before and after your training, it is essential to warm your muscles up by doing the proper stretching. Most fatigue and injury are caused by inadequate or inappropriate warm up. You want to make the most out of your potential by making sure your body is well conditioned.
Invest on your equipment. The most important equipment you can have as a track racer is your footwear. Get a quality pair of running shoes to help push your performance to the extreme. The best shoes may cost a bit more but since you are a runner, it will be a great investment.
Establish a baseline. When training, you have to have a baseline record of your own stats. First, always have a stopwatch handy and monitor yourself. Every training day, record and review any changes. Always aim for improvement.
Eat right. Nothing helps the body more than eating right. Take in only healthy foods especially protein. Reduce on fatty foods, sugar, and carbohydrates. It will also help if you monitor your weight.
Do interval training. Interval training refers to the method of training with breaks in between shorter but faster paces of running. This method develops your speed but also balances it with adequate rest periods. You can also add weights when running to increase your strength.
Relax. All those rigorous training can make you exhausted right on the day of the race. If that happens, your efforts might be put to waste. To avoid this, make sure you relax a few days before the track race competition. And of course, never forget to have fun along the way. Go run for those track medals!
