How to Train For Soccer

Over the years, soccer has grown to become more competitive than ever. Its basis is the high performance of each team player. In order to achieve high field performance, soccer players must be exposed to rigorous but proper training. The player must develop his fitness, stamina, and running skills.

Fitness is needed because the movements done in a soccer game requires power which only a fit body can provide. Stamina is also an important factor since the intense physical activity done can make a low-stamina person faint in the middle of the game. Running skills is needed for the obvious reason that the game requires non-stop running back and forth each end of the game field.

For a soccer player to bring soccer trophies to his team, he must be able to train well. Training well involves not only the training methods but also the right timing and duration. An effective training is the ones done for 12 continuous months. However, since tournaments start immediately, 8 months is acceptable. This training duration is divided into phases: Pre-season training in an early season, Pre-season training in a late season, during season training, and Off-season training.

There are four essential types of training that most professionals and amateurs use.

To condition your body well both for the game and the coming training, your endurance must be developed. In the first few weeks of the training, low-intensity aerobic conditioning is perfect to develop endurance. This should be followed by intense interval training.

Strength should be the next thing to be developed. Do strength training by lifting different kinds of weights including barbells, dumbbells, lightweight implements, and so on. The strength training should be done for about 3-10 weeks.

Speed and power are two important skills that are very significant in the game field. Develop them by monitoring yourself to first have a baseline and gradually increase your speed and power over time. This activity should be started during the pre-season and in-season phases.

Lastly, flexibility and skills should be developed during the game seasons to completely increase your soccer performance. High performance in the field is the key to bringing home soccer awards.
