Tumbling towards Triumph

If a beginner gymnast aims to someday receive gymnastics medals, she should focus on the basic skills first before trying out harder stunts. The most popular gymnastic movement is tumbling. There are two categories in any gymnastic movement which are backward and forward. Forward tumbling is believed to be more difficult than backward since it requires more shoulder strength than any other movement.

Power tumbling is one skill that is considered a foundation of other stunts. When you are able to do power tumbling, you are most likely prepared to do any other stunt in gymnastics. Power tumbling is a form of stunt that requires flips and twists in the air. It may take loads of practice and time to master but you sure would not regret putting effort in learning it.

How do you do power tumble? First, as mentioned earlier, you have to master the basic skills of gymnastics first. It will be very difficult and dangerous for you to jump in doing complex stunts right away. You can practice doing basic flips on a trampoline as a start.

Once you have learned the basic skills, make sure you are well-equipped. Prepare your area by placing a stretch of springy mats beside a trampoline. Add a thicker mat on the end for protection. When everything is set, position yourself on the trampoline and push to a flip. Keep practicing forward and backward flips, landing on the mat.

When you are comfortable doing the flips, start adding twists to it while in the air. Do half-twists initially and proceed to adding full-twists. Do a series of flips with twists once you can and practice on it. Lastly, work on a graceful landing on the mat. All the experts who now collect gymnastics trophies started off by trying and falling as well. Anything can be done when you put your heart to it.
