Managing a College Baseball Team

To be a coach of a college baseball team who aims to receive baseball trophies and baseball awards, one is required to be willing to face extra responsibilities. As compared to high school or professional team coaches, college baseball coaches are given the task to monitor and improve each of his members’ academic statuses. The college baseball coach should be concerned about the academic grades of his team members because this is the most important requirement to participate. He should teach his members responsibility and time management to juggle sports and academics.

Follow these guidelines on effectively managing a college baseball team:

1. Get as much information as you can about the NCAA. You will need to get briefed about the rules and regulations of the association you are about to join in before you get started.

2. Recruit high school baseball players to fill up the spots for next year’s roster. Attend high school baseball games and observe the players you might like. Do not only recruit those who made a great impression but those whom you think has the potential of being a good player.

3. Discipline your current team members. As mentioned earlier, you have to teach your member responsibility and time management. Monitor their academic performances and be aware of the members who are having trouble getting good grades. Talk to them and give them advices if you must. Create a motivational program so they will be eager in performing well on both sports and academic fields. Aside from academics, your members should know the importance of proper conduct. Do not only teach them baseball techniques but also life techniques.

4. Form a good coaching staff. You would not be able to manage well on your own. Seek out help from your staff. For this to be effective, you have to have a good coaching staff on your back. Recruit those who have adequate experience and reasonable amount of knowledge about the sport and management.

There is more to a coach than just dictating what the team has to d in the field. A good coach is sometimes seen as a friend and a father to most players. Guiding them in becoming good players and individuals and having fun yourself is the most important thing in being a coach. When these qualities are applied in managing a college baseball team, baseball trophies will naturally follow.
